Chalice Presentation to Newly Ordained Priests

Knight of Columbus Assembly 2688 presents chalices to recently-ordained priests in need of a chalice. The chalices are engraved with the recipient priest’s name as well as the names of deceased members of our assembly who passed away in recent years. As the priest celebrates mass, he will remember our dearly departed brother Sir Knights.

On September 23, 2020, chalices were presented to Father Gomez Ruiz and Father Cossio, who were ordained June 27, 2020, after the daily mass at St. Brigid. Fr. Neil Herlihy, St. Brigid’s Pastor, prepares for presentation of chalices.

Father Gomez Ruiz spent a pastoral year and deacon internship at St. Catherine of Siena parish in Kennesaw. He currently splits his time between Prince of Peace Church in Flowery Branch and St. John Paul II Mission Church in Gainesville. Engraved on the chalice presented to him are his name and the names of Sir Knight Edward J. Trainor, Sir Knight Don L. Myers and Sir Knight Richard T. Szyperski.

Prior to coming to Atlanta, Father Cossio took part in a spiritual program ministry in a St. Paul, MN hospital. He currently splits his time between St. Teresa Church in Douglasville and at St. Brigid in Johns Creek. Engraved on the chalice presented to him is his name and the name of Father Daniel J. McCormick, beloved priest at All Saints Catholic Church in Dunwoody.

SK Jon Bird, SK Nick Mattera and SK Bob Mitchell (top row l. to r.) presented the chalices to Fr. Ruiz Gomez and Fr. Cossio (bottom row l. and r.). Fr. Herlihy is in the center of the bottom row.

Ed Trainor’s son, John Trainor,  his wife,  Heather and his son Jack Trainor were in attendance.
